From September 24 to 27, 2026, Naples will officially begin to experience the America's Cup atmosphere with a preliminary regatta that promises to be a spectacular event and a preview of the major event in 2027, when the world's oldest sporting event will come to Italy for the first time in history.
The announcement was made in Cagliari, during the first preliminary regatta scheduled in the Golfo degli Angeli from May 22 to 24, in the presence of the Minister for Sport and Youth, Andrea Abodi; the Extraordinary Commissioner for Bagnoli-Coroglio and Mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi; the President of the Campania Region, Roberto Fico; the President and CEO of Sport e Salute, Marco Mezzaroma and Diego Nepi Molineris; and the Chief Executive Officer of the America's Cup Partnership, Marzio Perrelli.
To allow for the completion of the redevelopment of the Bagnoli area, the participating teams will be hosted at the Navy Logistics Command in Nisida, thanks to significant teamwork between institutions coordinated by the Italian government. The crews will then move to Bagnoli, where they will remain until 2027.
The race course will be the Gulf of Naples, a unique setting that will provide the backdrop for the challenges.
The event will represent not only an international sporting preview, but also an opportunity to showcase Italy's ability to organize and host global events ahead of the historic 2027 event and Naples' ongoing urban transformation.
