America’s Cup 2027: Naples launches the countdown to the 38th edition
A symbolic ceremony on the city's famous waterfront marks another milestone on the road to one of the world's most prestigious sailing competitions.
Naples has officially begun its countdown to the Louis Vuitton 38th America’s Cup, with a special ceremony held on September 22, 2026, along the city's iconic waterfront.
A large countdown clock, designed in the shape of a sail and installed in Piazza Vittoria, will mark the days remaining until the international sailing competition arrives in the Gulf of Naples in 2027.
The installation provides a visible reminder of the city's preparations for an event that will bring leading international sailing teams to southern Italy.
Institutions unite for the America’s Cup
The inauguration brought together representatives of national and local institutions, alongside senior figures from the sporting world.
Among those attending were Italy's Minister for Sport and Youth Andrea Abodi, Campania Regional President Roberto Fico, Naples Mayor Gaetano Manfredi, Sport e Salute President Marco Mezzaroma and CEO Diego Nepi Molineris.
America’s Cup Partnership CEO Marzio Perrelli and Emirates Team New Zealand CEO Grant Dalton also attended the ceremony.
The official activation of the clock highlighted the cooperation between the institutions involved in preparing Naples for the international event.
The road to 2027
The countdown will accompany the city towards the main stages of the 38th America’s Cup.
The Louis Vuitton Cup is scheduled to begin on May 22, 2027, while the America’s Cup Match is set to start on July 10.
Before the main event, Naples will host the Preliminary Regatta from September 24 to 27, 2026.
The four-day competition will give international teams an opportunity to race in the Gulf of Naples while allowing organizers to test preparations ahead of the following year's major event.
More than a sailing competition
For Naples, hosting the America’s Cup represents an opportunity extending beyond international sport.
The event is expected to draw attention to the city's maritime identity, encourage tourism and support initiatives connected to the blue economy and technological innovation.
Local institutions have also emphasized the importance of involving young people, schools and grassroots sporting associations.
The countdown clock on the Naples waterfront will therefore represent more than the passing of time: it will become a daily reminder of the city's journey towards a major international sporting event
